There was a gentleman who approached to quit alcohol. I asked him how did you start? He shared that how started drinking with his friends and then how it became a regular habit. Now, daily he sits with his friends for whole night and they drink. He has been bad to his wife also because of same. He would take away all the money she earns and so many times he had hit her to get money. So many times he has created a scene in front of his children. Because of this habit, he is unable to focus on work also. He is awake for whole night and that’s why whenever he has joined any job, he had to quit as he could not work. But now, his wife has asked for a divorce and he wants to change himself before he would be left with nothing.
So what were you thinking while starting and treating his wife badly. I was thinking of friends, their approval, alcohol. But were you aware of the things that would come along? And the answer was a puzzled look on his face. What is awareness?
Our awareness is our consciousness.
There is one who is thinking and the awareness is watching even the thinking. It’s watching what you are thinking, why you are thinking, what would happen if you are thinking and doing.
We are what we are thinking but are we the one who is watching this thinking? Who is being aware of this thinking? Can we be that awareness? He started working on knowing what he was thinking and in he few days he came back crying accepting what all wrong he had done. But still he was thinking from the perspective of ego. How about we shift this awareness to love and what all we can do?
He was able to quit alcohol in few months and he was more aware of everything. His life changed as he changed.
I wonder can we be awareness behind our mind? The mind is the one who is thinking. The awareness is the consciousness. We make it sleep or lie dormant all the time and we let the mind wonder. Can we be awareness?
