When you are resting, you are not wasting your time. You are simply resting!

One lady called up and discussed about her husband. She said that her husband is workaholic. He does not take enough rest and sleep and then whole day he stays tired and irritated. Its affecting their relationship as well as his health. Somewhere in his life he picked up that we should work hard and if someone is sleeping he is wasting his time. As he does not want to waste his time, so he keeps working. He only sleeps when he crashes himself to sleep. But as soon as he wakes up, he starts working again. Sometimes, it’s as little as 1-2 hours too.
Another girl complained that her parents have created too much pressure of studies on her. She has to study and only study or they get after her life that she is not serious about her studies. She gets tired and she reaches to a stage where nothing gets inside her head.
Such scenarios are not very uncommon.
We feel only physical rest is required but we need emotional and mental rest too. Sometimes, we may rest physically but because our mind did not rest it was still working we do not feel we have rested enough. We feel lethargic. Without taking a mental break our mind starts giving up too. That’s why we need to take a complete break to rest.
It’s like if we keep working and do not sleep for few days, after one day instead of working a lot our productivity would decrease. We might be working longer hours but our efficiency would decrease. Similarly it is there for our brain too.
So when we are resting, we are not wasting time. We are resting. Stop telling yourself otherwise. Rest guilt free. Take a mental break too!
