Bhagwad Geeta says, there are three types of Charities.
Satvik, Tamsik, Rajsik.
When it’s unconditional, it’s Satvik, which is highest form of Charity
Rajsik and Tamsik are when it is done out of ego and when it is done in expectation of result.
Why satvik is so important and why it is of highest form?
We get results as per what our intentions are. Whenever we are doing something, if we do it with the intention that there is a presence of God in everyone and I am no one to do anything, it’s the divine himself, giving and receiving then the charity or any deed done becomes 100% Satvik. However, when it is done with an ego or an involvement of I, it becomes Satvik or Rajsik.
When divine is involved in something, it becomes pure, it becomes divine. Otherwise, there is always a presence of darker side.
So how to bring divine and make it divine?
We need to know that, if someone is accepting something, they are allowing us for a good deed. It is like, divine is giving us an opportunity to do good. If he would not want, we would not be able to give also. So, if we are getting an opportunity for something, we must know that, it is not that we are something big, it is that, divine is giving us an opportunity to heal and to create love, to be a part of his work, to be a part of divine himself, to wake up own divine. If he would not want to accept, what we are giving, then we will never be able to give. I remember once a gentleman sharing that he used to give a tenner to a lady outside the temple. So once he started feeling the pinch that if he would see her, he would have to give. After 2 days, he could no longer find her. THen he started feeling sad in sometime that he was gettimng an opportunity to do something good now it is taken away from him. So he went to the temple, seeked forgiveness and prayed. Next day that old lady came and said that she had gone to her village.
So give with a grateful heart. Give unconditionally. It is not someone else who is taking from you. It is divine who is accepting from you. It is like if we go to a temple with a big garland and the priest puts that directly on idol, we would feel very happy as it’s accepted. But giving directly to a divine part we do not realize that it’s same. So give with same gratitude and enthusiasm.
