When I was small, I heard a song and this is what was told to us always. When you give, you receive back in many folds. And this is not wrong. We receive so much when we give. But what makes me wonder, is it the right motivation?
Bhagwad Gita says that there are three types of charities. The lowest one is to satisfy ego or for namesake, the middle one is with a purpose and the highest one is to help someone, without any purpose in mind and that is a Satvik Charity. Bhagwad Gita always guides us about the ways of life and even what type of thought process is the right one to hold. I cannot say, we can never have negative thoughts or a purpose in mind when we give. We would have, especially when we have been educated this way. But what we can do is we can start choosing by being aware. When we get that thought that, if I give this, I would receive, we can start correcting that I am giving to help. I am giving as I am already receiving so much. I am giving as this is the right way.
Human beings got willpower which makes them special. We need to use that to make ourselves better and do better things every day. We all have that awareness where we know, what is the right thing and what is the wrong thing. We need to start choosing the right thing and here the right thing is, we need to give to give. We need to give as an expression of gratitude. We need to give with an awareness that everyone is an embodiment of God. When we give, we are just a channel, not the giver.
