One gentleman, who had been married for 40 years, shared his views on marriage. He has a great relationship with his wife and his wife says, I could never have a better husband. I asked him, the secret behind it. He said, you see Sheetal, we all have too many definitions of right and wrongs. And we keep judging our partner on the basis of that. When I married her, I decided to accept her beyond right and wrong. Everyone said that you need to love your wife unconditionally and I wondered what is the definition of this unconditionally. In everything, we are together and yes, everyone generally is. But still, people have complaints. I wondered if they have complaints, then where is unconditional. Then why do they have complaints? Because there are so many rights and wrongs, fed inside us by this world. Some by families and some we create. If we keep having so many rights and wrongs, how can we have time to love. All the space will be taken by those. So I created a place in my heart, where everything is accepted in her. When she did something and when she did not. How I know, because sometimes the family told me, she is this and that and when I looked inside, I always saw her safely sitting there. I did get thoughts sometimes, but I reminded myself of the promise of acceptance every time. It’s like when our kids are small, they do many mistakes like they write on walls, they may cut our sofas, they may break things, they may lose things, they may act temperamental but still, we are able to be patient with them and deal with them with love because we have accepted them unconditionally. So I accepted my wife as my own part. In some time of our marriage, I could see that from her side too. It’s like I received what I gave.
So, it always comes as a big sunshine which can brighten up every home and every relationship.
