Once one disciple asked Buddha, who all can attain enlightenment and Buddha said anyone and then he questioned him back asking then why aren’t we attaining that. Buddha asked him to go to the village and make a list of everyone’s wishes and come back. No one had expressed a desire to be enlightened. So Bddha explained, if they do not want that, how can they have that?
Its simple, when we come to asking something we have a long list, what can God do with it? You can seek God only if you wish to…you can be enlightened only if you ask for that..but every time you raise your hand to ask something, you start asking with a long list, now God wants to see you happy, so he keeps giving you whatever you have been asking. So if you really want to get rid of pain , you want to have absolute freedom, you want to be enlightened, you need to start asking for it. Haven’t you heard this, ask and it is given, the simple theory of subconscious mind…you attract what you ask and without asking you do not attract that. You need to seek for it..same way..as it is also written in Vedas, you need to seek God, you need to ask for it…why do they say enlighten..it is to move toward light..which is the Unmanifested God, so you need to ask to move toward light to understand light….the problem is we are stuck so much with this body that we forget we are just staying in this body….and we do not want anything beyond that.
Just saying I want to get rid of the cycle of rebirth or I want to be with God does not help, you have to ask dilligently..if you do not..no fast..no Karma would help you
