She would shout at servants, would become extra polite with someone who was financially better than her, would be rude to her parents and like this. Similarly everyone else also treated her differently. Servants did not respect her and talked bad about her, parents tried avoiding her and better ones tried suppressing her and kind of she felt used. She treated everyone differently and everyone else also treated her differently. She wondered what wrong she was doing.
On the other hand, everyone respected her husband a lot. He always talked to everyone politely and with respect. He treated everyone as his own. Whether it was their servant or his parents or any stranger or staff in office, everyone loved him and respected him. She wondered what was the difference.
So he told her, the difference is of heart. i do not feel they are lesser or more than me. I feel they all are my fellow human beings and they all deserve respect. If there is a servant, I am paying him but he is earning because of the work he is doing. If he is earning less, it does not make him a lesser human being. I have no right to disrespect him. I have utmost respect for all the people who are working and earning. Similarly, parents might be throwing tantrums. But when i was small I did more than what they are doing. They deserve to throw some now. So I have respect for what they did and I treat them with same respect.
The way you treat people does not depend on who they are. It depends on who you are. It shows what you deserve. It shows your own values. It shows your upbringing and character.
Be a respectful human being.
