Last
week, I was supposed to give a seminar to the Primary school teachers about how
to help your child to be a better human being. The first speaker finished his
speech some 30 minutes late and I got an opportunity to listen to what he was
saying. He presented lots of facts about Vivekanand and many more leaders in
the past. I am really lucky that I could listen to him. I could see lots of
paintings of our famous leaders and freedom fighters around the hall to
motivate children. They are taught to inculcate their character. It’s a beautiful
thing to follow someone’s best qualities in you. However, if we keep teaching
our children to follow someone, where we would have leaders and probably that
is why now we do not have any one around whose painting can be used to motivate
children. We are not preparing leaders, we are preparing followers. Where they
feel that their leaders quality or strength is their own weakness and they
should work on that, so that they can also have same strength. But today we don’t
need followers, we need leaders. Where the person is able to see his own
strength and bring out the best in people too. Leader does not say, that I am
the best and you should follow me, he brings out the best in who believes in
him. The gentleman’s speech reminded me of one incidence from my own life. I
had a friend who is a Geologist. He said that I cant be a writer like you and I
told him, I cant be a Geologist like you. The truth is if I am good at writing
does not mean it’s his weakness. He has his own unique gift and that is his strength.

It’s
good to tell people or our children about what is good in others but we also
have to tell them to find their own best. So that they do not develop low self
esteem, jealousy, hatred etc. When they would realise their own strength they
would be happy and contented within themselves. They would not be full of ego
because they would know that others are also gifted and they would not lack
self esteem also because they would know even they are equally gifted. The gift
which would be their gift to the world too. Which would make this world a
better place. However, if we keep following others, we would never be able to
bring out own unique gift. If everyone will find own unique gift then everyone
would be equal and unique and there would be no place for comparison, ego and
jealousy. It would create a better place of love because then we would believe
in how we can give this gift to the world in a better way instead of what more
I can take from this world. When we create lackness, we create a generation
which would ask for more and more because they would feel they lack something
and they need to fill up the gap. However, when we create a contented
generation, we would create a world which would believe in giving more than
taking because they would realise that they already have everything. Choice is
ours, what we want to create for tomorrow.
