Giving has a magic which we all cannot describe. However, I know one thing, whatever we give comes back to us in many folds. When you give you receive more and when you give unconditionally, thats when the abundance happens.
I remember a small mythological story which I had heard when i was small. My mother was very fond of visiting discourses which used to happen in big tents in those days. Nowadays, everything comes on TV. So it was one of those. It is the story of King Janak. Janak was Ram’s father-in-law. When he died and went to heaven, Indra came to receive him, such were his good deeds. When Janak was reaching to his special place, he passed through hell. The souls there came running and started requesting him to stay there on the gate of hell for long and many souls started gathering there. He asked, Indra what was happening. Indra said that the air which is touching your body is relieving their pain. Such is the affect of your good karma or Punya. Then janak said that if that’s the case, then I am giving them all my Punyas, so that they can be relieved. Suddenly, he saw lord himself coming to fetch him. Now, Janak, wondered, and lord said that when you donated, all your punyas to help others in healing them, you earned grander punya. It’s so grand that lord had to come to get you.
Sounds like a simple story and sweet one but it had a great depth. When you give, even lord has to respect you. Or to earn lords respect, you have to help others and give. When you give, you rise.
In life, the rule is simple. You cannot grow or rise, without learning to give and help others. Make it a part of you. When you share, you heal yourself, you heal this world. You make yourself better and you make this world a better place. The healing starts happening in every possible way. No one is so poor that he cannot give anything. When you set your intentions, it flows. We all just need to have the intention and the flow starts happening. It is not about how much you have, it is about how much you want to give. janak did not think that, if he would give away all his Punya, he would be left with none. Then he might would have to stay in hell. he just set the intentions and gave away all he had and he earned more.
Learn to give, learn to help with all your heart, and you will see how this world starts respecting you, because this is how God respects all of us.
