One old gentleman was smiling and hugging small children on the road. People felt he was crazy and were laughing at him. But he had a magical touch which was making everyone smile. I asked him what makes him like this and he shared that he earned a lot and did not bother about anyone around. However, he had a fatal accident and he thought that he would not survive. When he was on operation table, all he could think of was a beggar, he had given some money to the beggar and the beggar had smiled. He remembered that smile and was feeling peaceful. He felt that it was the only good deed he had done. He did not think of anything else like which all expensive restaurants he had gone, the expensive clothes, house, cars etc. It made him realize that these things did not matter if they are not there in his thoughts and he had spent most of his life on something which did not matter. What mattered to him was that he had made that beggar smile. He survived the accident and decided to do what he could do to make people smile. This brought him closer to people whom he though were in need most. He also realized that it was not money which could share those smiles. It was the love in his heart which brings those smiles. Now he feels that he has a treasure to think over when he would die. It would not be one face or smile but many many smiles he would remember. So daily he makes sure he is sharing as many smiles as he can. He also makes sure that he does not hurt anyone intentionally.
I was listening to him and feeling mesmerized. I felt that sometimes things happen for good. Though accident was a bad experience but it had put him on the beautiful path of life. He was happy and he was sharing same happiness with everyone else around. He was filled up with love and he was able to share same love with everyone else too. What can be more beautiful. It is true that in the end what matters is how much you have been able to give instead of how much you have received. Most of the times in life our focus is on what more we can get in live but what matters more is that what we have given. If this is what matters, then why can’t we start that journey right now about what we have been able to give. Feeling of giving is always above feeling of receiving. Share as many as smiles as you can and love as much as you can. Its not for someone else but always for you.
