Last year I went for an interview, they wanted to meet me for Personality Development Sessions for MBA colleges. I was suppose to be there at 11 am and I reached at 10.55 am, I do not like to make people wait. After waiting for 30 minutes, I asked the girl at Reception and she told me that it would take another 10 minutes. I waited till 12, not to mention I was becoming restless. I decided I did not want that assignment as I would not work with such people who have no value of people they are going to work with. Finally, they woke up from sleep and invited me in at 13.00 hrs. I walked in proudly carrying my bag and file. They asked me to sit and I took the chair. As the norms go, he started asking me about my experience and I did not reply, I gave a smile and he was little taken aback. His face which was full of pride up till now suddenly turned into a question mark. I told him, you want to teach Time Management to students, how would you teach, when you do not value time yourself. He said sternly that he values time and he knows how to manage his time. I told him, “If you would have valued time in true sense you would have understood the value of others time also. You invited me at 11 and you are meeting me at 1, if you got busy today, you should have intimated me about same.” It took me 1 hr to reach there and I waited for another 1 hr (after I decided) to explain him the value of time. I walked out of his office holding my head high and left the office.
Does not matter, what is the position of a person, everyone has own time schedule and everyone is pretty busy in own life and you are no one to decide that someone else’s time is less valuable than yours. If you have this thought then you definitely have not understood the real value of time. You are busy and you do not want anyone to waste your time, how can you waste someone else’s time? Everyone’s time is equally important as everyone got these 24 hours only, they did not have an extra 25th hr to wait for you.
