There is a small, yet famous story in Indian mythology. Why so famous? Because Vishnu had to appear as Mohini to resolve this. Bhasmasur was a demon who practiced penance for years and Shiva was happy, he asked for immortality. Shiva told him that everyone who is born has to die and immortality cannot be give. So he asked that he shall have the power to burn down anyone, if he keeps his hand on his/her head. Shiva agreed and immediately Bhasmasur ran towards Shiva to burn him. Shiva ran to Vishnu and asked for help. Vishnu turned into Mohini and when Bhasmasur saw such a beautiful woman, he forgot everything else. He asked her to marry him. She agreed but only on one condition that if he dances with her and he agreed. While dancing, she kept her hand on her head and he forgot everything. He also kept his hand on his head and he was burned to ashes after that.
We all have powers. All the human beings have power. We have the power to choose things on every step. We have such an immense power that we can think and create. But if we do not choose to do the right thing, these powers will destroy us. We become Bhasmasur. How does this happen?
If we use these powers for the welfare and service, we keep growing but if we start using these powers to harm others or to do the wrong things like keeping others money, not paying the dues to someone, not doing enough charity, not helping people, we start destroying ourselves. How are we destroying ourselves? People start suffering physically towards the end of the days, they spend their old age in tremendous pain, they may suffer financially and may never recover, they may suffer lots of pain at the hands of their children, it could be anything.
So choose to do the right thing and you will grow and become better. If you choose to do the wrong thing, you will step on the path of self-destruction. That’s why we are superior. Because we can choose.
