The little one argued his mother for more and more frackers on Diwali. His mom was reluctant but was giving in. So internally she decided to do something to help the child in the longer run. So she buys crackers and takes him to an underprivileged area and asks him to burn there. The child starts burning and realizes that there were other small children who were watching and did not have any crackers. They were sad. he kept burning and then started feeling sad and tired. He asked his mother to go as he was done. His mother asked him that why did he buy so many if he could not. And after burning them, was he feeling happier or not? He shared that he did not enjoy as other were sad and he thought for a second and asked if he could give those to the children who were watching. His mother happily agreed. He distributed crackers and burned along with them. All the kids were happy and he was happier. He had that light of giving, the fun of sharing and happiness of watching everyone else’s happiness. He came back home very happy.
When he came back home, his mother asked him, what did he learn? He shared that if he has to be happy, he has to share what he has. So that everyone around him can be happy. Alone will never make him happy. His mother hugged him and felt worth buying extra crackers.
Festivals come and go. The purpose is to light our hearts. So that we can bring that light to other’s lives too. The true essence of the festival is in spreading light. It is in spreading love and happiness. Can we bring home joy? Can we bring home the lights of festivals? Can we share those lights with everyone around? Can we share that light with others? Can we celebrate all together?
