Whenever I read Kabir’s dohas, I get mesmerized. There so much of wisdom. They have such a profound wisdom.
In this one Kabir says, it does not matter how much you have learned, your true wisdom comes when you learn to love. Without that you have not evolved truly. And it is so true. If after all the learning and money and everything, if we do not know how to live with love, how to help people, how to understand other’s pain and if we do not try to help them out of that pain, where have we learned. Has that education served it’s purpose?
I was talking to a teacher, and she shared that in their school they have added compassion as a part of curriculum. They take their kids to different places, make them understand other’s pains and and then they ask kids to help them. She also shared that we all have an innate streak to help others. That’s why when ever we see someone in pain or in problem, we feel uncomfortable and we want to help others. We want to do something to make that situation better. Sometimes people want to do things even when they know that the other person has hurt them.
Such a beautiful thought. I remember when I was a child and there was another child in the school. He was laughing at an old man. The old man tried ignoring and then finally said, what’s the use of this education if you do not know how to help an old man and above that you are making fun of him. The child felt little embarrassed and ran away but I learned my lesson. That the first purpose of any education is to be compassionate. Growing up truly means growing up in heart.
