One gentleman was beating a child on the road and I was very small. I saw that with my father and my father commented that look at him, he is like an animal. I asked my father why is he doing that? My father told me that this small child is his servant and has broken something. But all children break things. They do not know how to handle everything carefully. And why no one is stopping him. My father went up to him and made him end this. But I learned that if we do something bad, we step down and we are not humans or let’s say we only have have a human body but not the soul of a human.
In another incidence, my father was appreciating someone and praised that person saying he is just like God. (Devta Swaroop). So I asked him, why is he like a Devta. My father told me that he serves the society. He helps people, he serves poor and he is always there where ever he can be in someone’s pain. So I realized that compassion and service can take us one step above and we become like God.
It is not about having an ego. It is not about becoming God or animal. It is about realizing that having compassion and serving others is a necessity. It is a mandatory quality for a human being. That’s what makes us human. If we do not have compassion in our hearts, if we do not feel each other’s pain, if we are not ready to help each other even if we have to step one extra mile, then do we deserve to be called humans? Our compassion and service connects us with each other. That’s what makes this world a one place. That’s what makes us one. This is who we are.
Learn to be compassionate. Teach your children to be compassionate. We all need to rise for humanity.
