Does not matter what past was and what future will be. What matters most is what good we are doing and how pure are our intentions.

We were sitting in a group and we were having some great
discussions about some people who have a revered position in the history. The
discussion came to Valmiki, Tulsidas and Mahatma Gandhi. One person started
talking bad saying, they were not real saints and look at what all bad they had
done. Valmiki also was a dacoit and had killed many people. One fine day he
woke up and became a great saint. Mahtma Gandhi was too much into women and
then he started fighting for India. Tulsidas had so much lust and then he
started doing all his work. So? Where does it matter? Why do you have to look
at what weaknesses someone had, when someone was able to overcome all those
weaknesses? Why do we have to use someone pasts deeds to put them down and we
simply cannot respect what good they did and how much they have contributed in
our lives. Our ego is very tricky. Most of the times it cannot accept that
others have been good, it simply wants to hear that I am the best. In order to
become best it tries to find faults in everyone and if there are no faults in
what someone is doing right now then it tries to find faults in their past
actions. Where does it matter?
Similarly, we all have this opportunity to start doing good
right now in this very moment. We meet so many people, who are so much
surrounded by the worries of the future that they ignore what is happening
right now. On the contrary, I was watching a program on TV, where a girl was in
love with a man, and she did everything to be with him despite of knowing the
fact that he had a terminal disease and he would die in another 2-3 years. They
could never marry also because he died at the age of 22. She said that for her
it was more important that if she could give him enough love for those 3 years.
She chose everything without worrying about future pain. I felt so much respect
for a young girl, where we are mostly insecure about the future, she knew she
had no future with him but she still chose because she felt that she had a
present with him.

If we learn to focus on present, all our past pains and
future worries would vanish and we would be most peaceful. Out 95% pain comes
from past memories or future worries. In reality, past cannot be undone and
future, no one knows. What matters most is what good we are doing right now and
how pure our intentions are. Even if we are doing lots of good things and our
intentions are not pure, we cannot expect a clean future. Does not matter what
you do. If you are doing lots of charity but your intentions are to get lots of
fame or to wash off your sins or to get this money returned with lots of
favours and your intention is not to help someone, then you cannot think that
your intentions are pure. You do not have to do big things, all you have to do
is purify your heart and rest everything will be taken care of. Purer is your
heart and better your life would be. Do good whatever you can now and you will
never have to worry about future. If you are getting an opportunity to do good,
be thankful instead of looking at it as an ego that you did something great. At
least you are getting an opportunity in which God decided to help someone
through you or else God is all self-sufficient to take care of everyone created
by him.
