Sometimes back, I had a maid serving full day. I hired her on regular society rates. Everyday, I found her doing more and more. She would find things to do like cleaning extra spaces, then come and take permission to do things. I did not have to bother much about maintaining the house at that time. I knew she was there. I was also growing fond of her and protective of her. Soon her salary was increased, I was supporting her in various other things too. I saw, observed and learned. Her attitude of what more I can do, rather than what more is done for her, made me do lot of things which I did not do for anyone else. Her attitude reminded me of a chat with a big business man who was a self made millionaire. He had started his life from ground level, where his family hardly had meals to eat. He shared that where ever he worked he always asked what more he could do, which always put him in a better position than others. In business also, he always asked, how could he serve his customers more. This has always made him a better person, better business man and his business has also grown so much because of this. Also because of this he always had more trust and support from his clients.
Does not matter what work we do, whether it’s at domestic front or in a professional environment, if you start cutting the corners, the other person or Universe will also start cutting the corners. I remember now, few years back, a gentleman had discussed his business problem. He used to supply potter wheels around. So while making payments, his clients used to deduct money. He was always in losses. So I asked if while making payments, does he cut money from the people who are serving you and he accepted. he always tries that, so that when his clients cut the money, his losses are covered. His money cycle could only be resolved, when he changed his attitude towards people who were serving him.
Whether with fear or with love, but we need to understand, we can grow only in life when we learn the attitude of service in work. If we can train our kids also on same, they would learn to be better humans too.
