One scorpion was drowning and a sage saw him. The scorpion asked him for hep and the sage got into the water. But as soon as sage held him, he stung the sage. Out of pain, the sage could not control and threw him back. Sage again went into the water tried getting the scorpion out. But again same thing happened. It kept happening repeatedly. One person was watching this and asked why are you saving him when everytime its stinging you. The sage smiled and said that it’s his nature, when he can’t leave his nature why should I leave my nature.
This story was told to me by mother when I was small. But it always reminded me to stay as I am rather than becoming bad with bad. She told me that, if you become bad with bad, there would be no difference between you and the other person.
My friend got married into a joint family and she met many people there. Some were good and some were bad. They might be good but some were bad to her. She became a part of plotting and politicking. She also started playing along and after some time when she sat and analyzed, she started hating herself. She realized what she was becoming. She decided not become a part of the dirty game but it was difficult to live in such an environment. After one year of all this, they shifted out.
Yes if we become bad with bad, there is no difference between us and the other person. Who did first and who did later, where does it matter?
Be who you are. Do not let the negativity of others become yours own!
Give love, be love.
