This is no excuse that everyone does so, if I have done what’s a big deal. One of my friends lied to me and when I fronted him, his first argument was, there is no one in the world who does not lie. Come on, if everyone is jumping in the well to see if they die does not mean that you also have to test like this. Corrupting yourself is a similar thing. It is just an excuse that everyone else is doing so I did same. You cannot compromise on your values and what deep down inside you think is right. I know right way is little stony and tests you more than the corrupted way, but it does not mean you cannot walk on it. If it is stony, it makes you tougher and you shine more. People with values and principles actually have more endurance and can stand the tests of time. Life can never be same and you need to be prepared to fight all odds. However, your armor is impenetrable if it is unadulterated.
If corrupted ways have been the better ways, the management colleges wouldn’t have been teaching Business Ethics and there wouldn’t have been any Enron debacle. If someone is telling you there is a problem somewhere, do not get defensive. Instead listen to the things and ponder over. You will be a better person. If someone is telling you where you are pure, you have to make sure that you keep your purity intact there. It generally happens, when we hear something bad about us we get defensive and try to prove it right by any kind of arguments but whatever is wrong is wrong and right will always be right. Even if you win the argument you are loosing yourself as you are loosing a chance to improve.
If you have done something instead of giving a counter arguments and excuses accept it that you did it and you should not have done. When I fronted my friend about lying, his first argument was everyone lies, then do not you lie, I told him people lie and I do too however, I do not fib, no confusion. I meant that I do not use lie as a means for something or to buy excuses. If I have done something or it has happened by mistake, I am ready to accept it as it is done by me instead of counter imposing on some one else. As a child we have lied on small things like chocolates etc. However, as we gain our conscience I have tried staying away from it. Then I told him, if everyone is corrupted does not mean even you have to corrupt yourself. You need to keep your values and principles intact.
