Pick up any religion and see what it is trying to teach. Go deeper and see why it was established. When old ones start getting astray, the new ones come to support the correct ideology and the first thing anyone teaching is kindness. To be kind to this world. To be kind to people. To be kind to parents. To be kind to children. To be kind to the poor, the animals and the entire creation. Then I wonder, if every religion is talking about the same thing, why do we have to fight? Just because the way we feel we are connected to God is different, the way we follow customs is different, we start fighting. But the fact is, we all are connected to God with only one thing, that is our faith. There is no other way to connect with the God.
If we fight in the name of God and we have no faith, we are not fighting for God. We are fighting for ego. Like in the olden days, kings would fight to show, who is more powerful, we all need to express who is more powerful. So we find religion as a medium to fight and express that power. I follow this, so I am more powerful. God and religion are about love and faith not arms and armaments or ego. Love is about surrender, not an expression of power. Faith gives us strength not ego. In fact a person of faith, does not need to fight, he will keep quiet because he knows God is there.
We all need to follow the truest religion, that is love and kindness. If we are not following that and doing everything else, whether it is to fight over that or to follow endless customs, we are going far, far away from God. I guess the purpose was to reach to God. If it was something else, then definitely we are achieving something or else we are failing completely.
