My girls had a presentation, and they were supposed to pick up their favorite character and why do they like it. So my one girl picks up Elsa from the movie Frozen and says that she liked Elsa because she is very powerful. She has magic. She can do anything with that magic. And then my four years old looked at me for approval. I smiled and told her that it is ok to like anyone and you have your own choice. But what makes us special is what we do in life. So many people had power, but we do not remember them fondly. We remember those who helped others, who protected others. Who did good things in life. She thought for a second and said that she liked her sister Anna more now because she was kind and loving and helped her sister. She also protected her kingdom without any special powers. She always helped everyone. I felt so proud of her. And the second one asked, which character do I like, I do not know. These days we have been reading Bhagwadgita (Children version). So I gave her the list of characters like Kansa who was so powerful, Bheema, Arjuna, Balrama and Krishna. And Kansa was also very powerful but then she chose Krishna. Because he helped people and his friends and he always cared for everyone around. He killed so many demons and always guided us to walk the right path.
Ravan, Kansa and many more like them were very powerful. What they chose to do with them established them as demons. Rama or Krishna or anyone else we remember and worship, we worship them because we follow what they chose to do in life. How they served and helped humanity and mother earth with love, established them as God. Yes, what we do with what we have makes us special. Just having something like power or money, does not make us special.
So always choose to do better things. Always choose to do the right thing. Always choose to serve. Always choose love. Always choose to help. Always choose to be kind.
