I believe in serving a lot. I believe that whatever we are doing, we shall have the purest intentions of serving each other, the society, God, parents, children. Whatever we do, is a service. But what make it different is the intention of service and how much love we are adding to it. My prayer, please help me in helping people. Every night before my girls sleep, they pray (guided by me), God please help me in serving this world.
Now, it becomes difficult to maintain that unconditional point where we just want to do things for others as a part of us rather than looking for some gain. We have been told in various forms that how serving others can help us. For example, if someone is sick, he may be told by an astrologer that if you give this kind of charity, you will be healed. If you do charity, you will have financial gain too. If you do this service, you will have another gain etc.
I am not denying, that service has gains. When we serve we gain. But why it has come to the point of a transaction. Why it is not there as a part of us. I remember once a lady asked if she will not take care of her husband’s parents, will their business suffer. And yes it will suffer. Without parents’ blessings, no business can grow. But what made me speechless was that she wanted to do things for them so that her business could flourish? What about her parents? Did they calculate the same way when they were raising her? Serving even husband’s parents is a part of that cycle. One gentleman asked me, what shall I do to have a better future for my child? Shall I make him give more charity? (I told him, please do so. Who knows, the child will learn to serve without thinking of the gain from that eventually?)
I wonder where are we headed? Everything has come down to the transaction.
We need to know, that we all are a part of each other. We cannot be happy, without helping each other. Others’ pain affects us. Whether we realize that or not. When we serve and when we have an opportunity to serve, we have already received help from him, it means. Otherwise, we will not even get an opportunity to serve. and even if there is a gain, that gain is up to him. Surrender the attachment to the gain. Just do it because we are here for that. Do it because that what makes this world a better place. A place where we are living in. All the gain has already been received when we received an opportunity to serve. HE is the one who is serving through us. He is the one who is getting served. He is the one who is present in everyone. Get over the ego, that I did this, so I need to gain from it. Open your eyes. He is here, working right through us when we serve.
