I always believe that, pain is inevitable but suffering is our choice. I remember when this was echoing in my head. I was personally going through tough time and I had a terrible head ache. I was sitting in the bathroom crying out of headache and praying that I cannot take it more. It’s too much for me to handle. Then I felt like someone is saying pain is inevitable but suffering is our choice. I guess that was a moment where I started learning about the purpose of pain.
I always wondered why God gave us pain if he really wanted us to be happy. Then there shall be no pain. But then how would we learn and evolve without going through pain. How would we discover a better side of us without pain? How would we learn humility? How would we understand without going through our own pain? I remember a lady who shared that she was always very judgmental of her own mother. She always criticized her mother. But when she had her own children, and she saw herself doing the same things and her children gave their judgmental opinion, she realized how much pain she had given to her mother and that was the time when she stopped judging and really connected with her after that. I met a gentleman who was helping the families of cancer patients. I asked him, how he picked up this cause and he shared that his father was suffering from cancer. And he knows what a family goes through in such times. So I have started helping them.
I have felt pain and I have learned from it. It has made me who I am. It has helped me in evolving as a human being. So many times, parents come to me and ask, how can they make sure that their children do not go through any pain. And my answer is we cannot do that. There is no one born ever who hasn’t experienced pain. When God was born, he himself went through pain and helped humanity. So accept pain. It evolves us. It makes us better. Learn from it.
Pain gives us a cause. Pain makes us human. Pain connects us with each other. Pain brings compassion. Pain shatters ego. Pain opens up the doors of own divinity.
